My brother-in-law called my 'fancy' lentil soup 'bean water with a sad carrot' and now I just make a giant pot of chili every Sunday.

After his brutal review, I realized my 'chef' phase was costing me $40 a week on weird spices, so now I just brown 2 pounds of ground turkey, dump in 3 cans of beans and a big can of crushed tomatoes, and eat for days on like $12 total, lol.

I used to buy those little jars of smoked paprika and fancy sea salt for my soups. Your brother in law's "bean water" comment actually made me laugh and realize I was doing the same thing. Now my go-to is just a can of black beans, some frozen corn, and a packet of taco seasoning. Tastes great and costs nothing.

That "bean water" moment is so real. I keep a big container of chili powder and cumin now, way cheaper than those tiny spice jars. A little onion powder and garlic powder in there too, and you're set for way more than just taco night.

Ever try adding a splash of vinegar to that bean mix? Cuts through the starch and brightens everything up, like hill.margaret's soup trick. Really makes those cheap spices pop.

Way more than just taco night" is a bit much. It's just some spices in a cabinet. Hill.margaret gets it, it's just beans. Not a life hack.
