My cheap pasta sauce experiment: jarred vs. a can of crushed tomatoes

I used to always grab a $3 jar of basic marinara for quick dinners. Last month, I tried the 'just a can of crushed tomatoes' method I saw online. For about $1.20, I simmered the can with some garlic and dried herbs I already had. The homemade version made double the sauce, tasted way fresher, and saved me almost $2 every time. Has anyone else made the switch and found it's just a no-brainer for your wallet?

What dried herbs do you usually throw in?

Did nancyn69 forget the olive oil?

I read somewhere that forgetting the olive oil is a common mistake people make with roasted veggies too. The oil helps the herbs stick and keeps things from burning in the oven. Without it you end up with dry, sad food every time.

Remember my buddy who skipped the oil once? His chicken stuck so bad we had to scrape the pan. He never forgets it now.
