My sister told me my chili was too watery and she was right
I always added a whole can of diced tomatoes with the juice, and it made everything soupy. Now I drain the can first and add a tablespoon of tomato paste instead to keep the thickness. Anyone else have a family member who calls out your cooking flaws?

So my mom told me my potato soup was basically dishwater once. She said it looked like I boiled potatoes and then gave up. I felt so bad I didn't make soup again for like a year. Then I started mashing some of the potatoes right in the pot before adding the milk and broth. It makes it naturally creamy without having to add a bunch of flour or cornstarch. Your sister doing you a favor even if it stings at first.

Families shouldn't need to critique cooking, just be grateful you got fed.

The "gave up" part from patricia_gonzalez kills me because that's exactly how my family talks. @wood.faith I get where you're coming from but sometimes the critique is love. My aunt told me my cornbread was dry like a biscuit that had been left out overnight. Now I add a small can of creamed corn and it stays moist. That sister of yours is probably looking out for you. Better to hear it from family than serve that watery chili at a potluck and have everyone whisper about it.
