PSA: My grandma's way with soup feels too expensive now
I used to help my grandma make huge pots of soup from scratch every Sunday. She would throw in dry beans, wilted veggies from the fridge, and a ham bone for flavor. It was the cheapest meal we had all week and it fed us for days. Now when I try to do the same, a bag of beans and some celery cost way more than I remember. I get confused about how to make a pot of soup without spending a lot of money. She never worried about the cost because things were just cheaper back then. I still make soup to save cash, but it doesn't feel as budget friendly as it used to. It makes me a little sad that such a simple meal has gotten so pricey.

Man, I used to roll my eyes when people talked about prices going up so much. Figured it was just normal inflation, you know? But seeing @the_zara talk about ground beef doubling really hit me. My own grocery trips have gotten painful lately, especially for the basics. Your grandma's soup story is exactly why it feels so wrong now, those simple meals shouldn't break the bank. It's not just memory, the math just doesn't work like it used to.

Seriously? Prices go up on everything... maybe it's just the rose-tinted glasses talking.

Rose-tinted glasses? The ground beef I bought last week has literally doubled in price since 2019, michaeld48. That isn't nostalgia, it's just my receipt.
