Stop buying giant bags of rice from the bulk aisle

I grabbed a 20 pound bag of jasmine rice at the Co-op last month thinking I was saving big. After 3 weeks I noticed little bugs crawling around inside the bag, and now I have to throw the whole thing out. The cashier told me those bulk bins don't rotate stock as fast as you'd think, especially for big bags. Anyone else deal with pantry moths from bulk rice, or do you just buy the smaller 5 pound bags instead?

Used to be a hardcore bulk buyer. Thought I was being smart and thrifty until I found weevils in a 25 pound bag of basmati last summer. That was a rough couple weeks trying to clean out my pantry. Now I only buy the 5 pound bags from the regular aisle even if it costs a bit more per pound. The peace of mind is worth it to not have to worry about bugs. Plus the smaller bags stay fresher anyway since I go through them faster.

Used to be a hardcore bulk buyer" oh I feel you wadew51, I felt like a straight up gourmet chef when I hauled that 20 pounder home lol. Then day three I'm scooping rice and see a little weevil doing the backstroke through the grains and I'm like, welp there goes my Costco fantasy. Threw the whole thing out, scrubbed my pantry like a crime scene, and now I'm a 5 pound bag loyalist for life. Small bags or bust, I don't need that kind of drama in my life.

One weevil sighting in my rice and I was done, immediately switched to the tiny bags forever.
