That time a stranger at the grocery store taught me a trick with canned beans

I was standing in the aisle at the Publix on Main Street trying to decide between the 88 cent store brand chickpeas and the $1.30 name brand ones. This older lady next to me just said "Honey, rinse them real good and nobody can tell the difference." She was right and now I always grab the cheap ones for my curries and salads. Has anyone else had a random shopper give them a tip that actually worked?

I read somewhere that rinsing canned beans can cut the sodium by like 40 percent, which is wild when you think about it. That Publix lady was onto something, I bet she's been doing that trick for decades. I tried it with the store brand black beans for my tacos last week and honestly they tasted way better than the fancy ones I usually buy. Made me wonder how many other food tips I've been missing just because I never asked.

Haha, guess I've been eating salty bean soup this whole time without realizing it.

Amen to that. Same thing happened to me with canned tomatoes. Old guy at the store told me to get the whole ones and crush em myself instead of paying double for crushed. Been doing it ever since.
