The cashier at Aldi showed me a cheaper way to feed my family

Last Tuesday I was at Aldi on Ridge Road and this older cashier, maybe mid-60s, noticed I had two bags of frozen chicken breasts in my cart. She said, 'Honey, you can get the whole chicken for half that price and stretch it for three meals.' I laughed it off at first, but she explained how she roasts one on Sunday, uses the meat for sandwiches and soup, then boils the carcass for broth. I tried it that weekend with a $4.99 bird and got dinner for four plus two lunches and a pot of soup. The broth alone saved me buying those $2 cartons. Have any of you tried breaking down a whole chicken instead of buying parts? I feel like I might be late to this trick but it's honestly cut my weekly grocery bill by about 15 bucks.
