The dinner at a potluck that split my family on buying in bulk

My aunt brought a massive tray of enchiladas to a family potluck last month and bragged it cost her $12 total because she buys cheese and tortillas in bulk from a restaurant supply store. My uncle argued back that she wastes half of what she buys because it goes bad before she uses it, and the savings don't add up when you toss expired stuff. Now I'm stuck in the middle trying to figure out if bulk buying for one person is actually worth it or just a trap. Do you stick to small grocery runs or do you go all in on bulk and deal with the waste?

$12 for that tray means she's eating expired cheese for the next three months.

Woah, hold on. $12 for that whole tray? Either your aunt found a crazy good deal on cheese or she's not counting the gas she spent driving to that supply store. Tortilla prices haven't been that low since like 2019.

$12 for that many enchiladas seems like a solid deal though.
