Tried make-ahead freezer burritos for the first time and it went sideways fast

I spent last Sunday making 20 of those cheap freezer burritos with beans, rice, and cheese from Aldi, thinking I'd save money on lunch for two weeks. They looked perfect going in, but I forgot to let them cool down first and now all 20 are stuck together in one giant frozen brick. Has anyone else made this mistake and found a way to separate them without destroying the burritos?

Oh man, that's brutal. My buddy did the exact same thing with a batch of breakfast burritos last year. He tried prying them apart with a butter knife and it was just disaster city - torn tortillas everywhere and beans spilling out. What ended up kind of working was letting the whole brick sit on the counter for like 15 minutes, then smacking it against the counter hard a few times to break the ice seal between them. They weren't perfect but most of them survived. You might also try running hot water over the edges of the brick real quick, just be careful not to soak the tortillas.

Whoa hold up, I gotta say something about the hot water thing. That's actually a pretty risky move if you ask me. Running hot water over frozen burritos can make the tortillas get all soggy and weird before the insides even thaw. Ive seen it happen to a friend who tried that trick ended up with mushy outer wraps and still frozen filling. Better to just do the counter sit and smack method you mentioned, that sounds solid. Or even better, wrap the brick in a damp paper towel and microwave it in short bursts flipping it around. That way the steam is trapped but not soaking the tortillas directly.

Two years ago I had a brick of frozen burritos from a coworker's party and I threw them in the microwave on defrost for like 4 minutes straight. That turned them into a hot mess of soggy tortilla goo. So @torres.thea your smack method is way smarter than my microwave disaster, I ruined half the batch.
