Tried those $1 bagged beans from Aldi instead of my usual brand

I was sure they'd be watery and bland, but I cooked a batch last Tuesday for tacos. They actually held up fine and tasted just as good as the $3 cans. Anyone else find a cheap swap that worked better than expected?

Oh man, I did the same thing with their store brand canned tomatoes. Figured they'd be watery garbage but they actually worked great in chili. Good to know those beans are solid too, I'm gonna grab a bag next time.

You ever have that moment where you're stirring the chili and you just know the tomatoes are gonna be watery and you brace yourself for disappointment? I've been there too many times, but that store brand stuff holds up way better than you'd expect, it's like a hidden gem in the canned goods aisle. Yeah, grab those beans, they're not mushy at all, just soak em a bit and they cook up nice and firm.

Ha, I was the same way too honestly. Always figured cheap beans would be all mushy and gross but I grabbed a bag of those pinto beans on a whim and they were totally fine. Definitely gonna save a few bucks on them from now on.
