Tried to make 5 dinners for $20 at Aldi and burned the rice at minute 22
I was batch cooking on a Sunday in my tiny apartment kitchen and walked away to answer a text, and the bottom of the pot turned into a black brick. Ended up scraping the top layer into a bowl and mixing it with canned chili, which honestly tasted fine, but does anyone have a trick for rice that doesn't need babysitting?
Rice cookers are the obvious answer but if you don't want another appliance taking up counter space in a tiny kitchen, try the oven method. Put your rice and water in a covered pot, bring it to a boil on the stove, then move the whole thing into a 350 oven for 25 minutes. It can't burn on the bottom because the heat comes from all around, and you can walk away guilt free. That trick saved me after my own black brick incident, and now I make rice while doing dishes or folding laundry. Works with any cheap pot you already own, no extra stuff to buy.
