Vent: That influencer who said $5 meals are easy to make never shopped in my town
I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and saw this post from some food blogger talking about how you can whip up a healthy dinner for under $5 using fresh veggies from the store. In my experience, she must live somewhere with way cheaper prices than what I deal with here in Omaha. I went to the grocery store after seeing that and a single bell pepper was $1.89 alone. By the time I added a head of broccoli, some chicken thighs, and rice, I was looking at over $12 for one meal for two people. It just rubs me the wrong way when people make budget cooking sound so simple without accounting for where you actually live. Has anyone else tried following those cheap meal plans and just ended up frustrated because your local prices don't match up at all?

You ever try making one of those $5 pasta dishes? I did it last week and the jar of decent pasta sauce alone was like $4.50 where I live in Ohio. Then add noodles, some ground meat, a little cheese and you're at $10 easy. It's like these influencers shop at some fantasy store where everything costs half of what it does here. My wife and I tried following one of those "budget meal prep" videos and ended up spending $60 for four days of dinners. That's a far cry from $5 a plate.

Read something the other day about how those budget influencers are buying in bulk at places like Costco or Aldi, or they're in a region where produce and meat are just cheaper period. The math doesn't work for most of us normal folks scraping by in regular grocery stores.
