Booked a hostel kitchen spot to save money and got food poisoning
I stayed at a hostel in Lisbon last month and paid $12 a night for a spot with kitchen access. I cooked pasta one night using the shared pots and pans, and got really sick the next day. Learned the hard way that hostel kitchens don't always get cleaned well. Has anyone else had bad luck with hostel cooking gear?

Nah, you probably just didn't wash your hands or something. Shared pots have never made me sick, and I've used plenty of grimy hostel kitchens.

Grimy hostel kitchens" - dude, what?? That's exactly the problem! You're literally admitting they're grimy and then saying that's fine. I've had the opposite experience, got a nasty case of food poisoning from a hostel pot that someone clearly didn't wash properly. There was this weird film on the water after I boiled pasta, didn't think much of it until I was hugging the toilet at 3am. Maybe your immune system is just built different, but I'm never risking it again after that. I actually started carrying my own little camping pot in my backpack after that trip. Not everyone's cooking habits are as clean as yours apparently are.

Man, come on @ellis.faith, I'm with you on this. People act like one bad trip to the toilet means the whole world is out to get them. If you're that worried about a little grime, stick to eating out of sealed packages.
