Can we talk about the guy in Lisbon who said my packing list was 'three outfits and a lot of fear'?
Back in 2019 I was hauling a 45 liter bag through Portugal for 10 days and I was miserable the whole time. An older traveler named Tom looked at my stuff at the hostel and said I packed like I was scared of my own trip. He said bring 3 shirts, 2 pants, and do laundry in the sink every 4 days, that's it. I argued with him for an hour about it, then cut my bag down to 22 liters on the next trip to Guatemala and it was the best travel decision I ever made. Now I do sink laundry with a laundry sheet, wring stuff in a towel, and hang it on the bunk frame. Feels like the old travel books were right about going light. Anyone here still carrying a big bag on purpose, or did you all go small too?
My uncle dragged a 70 liter bag through Thailand for 3 weeks and ended up wearing the same 2 shirts anyway. The rest was just dirty laundry he was hauling around for no reason.
