Heard a guy at the airport gate say he hasn't paid for a hotel room in 8 years
Was stuck waiting for a delayed flight out of Denver last month and this older dude next to me starts telling his seatmate about house sitting. Said he uses a website where people need someone to watch their pets and plants while they're gone. He just books flights to wherever's cheap and then finds a sit. Said he's done it in 15 countries now. I looked into it later and the yearly membership is like $150. Has anyone here actually tried the house sitting route for longer trips? Seems like a gamble with strangers' homes but the savings would be huge.

I read a blog post from some guy who's been full time housesitting for like 3 years and he said petsitting is way easier than people expect... dogs just want their walks and cats don't care as long as you feed them on time. The biggest thing he mentioned was reading reviews carefully and doing a video call before you commit to anything. A $150 membership sounds steep but it pays for itself after a couple nights that you don't have to spend on a motel.

Oh yeah, you think it sounds easy but my friend Jenna learned the hard way. She took a housesit through a site (not the one you mentioned, don't remember the name) for a lady with two cats. Turns out one cat had a medical thing and needed shots every morning, which wasn't in the listing at all. She figured it out on day one when the cat started yowling and she found the needles in the fridge. Plus the owner's neighbor kept coming by "to check on things" but really just wanted to gossip for an hour every day. She made it through the week but swore off housesitting after that. So yeah, that video call and reading every line of the review is probably smart.
