Hit 50 countries with a $40 backpack that's older than my kid
Just counted my passport stamps this weekend, 50 countries total. That's wild because I started traveling with a cracked $40 backpack from a thrift store in 2009. The same bag has survived bus crashes in Peru and monsoon season in Thailand, still going strong. But it made me think about how cheap travel went from being cool to being a whole industry. Now everyone's selling $300 ultralight gear while I'm patching holes with duct tape. Anyone else live on the old school budget grind or do I need to finally upgrade?

Ha! Same here, my $30 Jansport from a garage sale has been through 30 something countries and a near drowning in Vietnam. Duct tape is basically a fashion statement at this point. Honestly, I keep waiting for the thing to finally give up, but it just won't quit, so why would I spend the money?
