Host's one star review saved me $400 on my Europe trip

Last month I booked a 3 night stay in Prague through a discount site. The host had one review, a 1 star warning about the heat and noise. I almost ignored it because the price was insane, 35 bucks a night. That review was spot on, no AC and a tram line right outside my window. I switched to a hostel for the same money and got sleep and breakfast. Now I read every single review backwards, starting with the worst. Has anyone else saved by trusting the negative reviews over the good ones?
