I chose a hostel over a hotel in Barcelona and it wasn't worth it

Paid $45 a night for a 10-bed dorm at Generator Hostel and got zero sleep because someone came in drunk at 3am. A basic hotel outside the tourist zone would've cost me $60 and I'd have actually rested for my 8am Sagrada tour. Has anyone else found hostels losing their value lately?

Wait, $45 for a noisy dorm? That's wild.

Read something recently about how hostels have basically turned into budget hotels that happen to have bunk beds. The Generator chain especially feels like they're banking on the social media hype more than actual good sleep. Last year in Lisbon I paid $50 for a bed at a "design hostel" and it was louder than my old college dorm. At least at a cheap hotel you can close the door and pretend the world doesn't exist. The drunk 3am thing is basically a guarantee at any hostel these days, not a surprise.

Nah @taylor.reese some of us actually like the hostel vibe and meeting random people.
