I lost a full day in Lisbon waiting in the wrong line for a train ticket
I mean, I stood there for over an hour before someone told me I needed a different pass for the regional line. It cost me about 40 euros to book a last minute bus instead. Has anyone else had a similar mix up with train systems abroad?

What line were you even in? I had the exact same thing happen in Rome, where I waited forever for a ticket only to find out I needed a special pass for the airport train (which, of course, was sold at a different counter across the station). It's such a gut punch when you realize you wasted all that time.

Been there, Lisbon's train system is a bit confusing.

Oh man, what's the deal with the ticket machines? My friend got so lost trying to buy a ticket to Sintra last year, @luna_wright. He ended up in the wrong line for like twenty minutes because the signs weren't clear. I mean, he got on the train eventually but it was a whole thing. Maybe it's just me but those old stations could use some better English notes for tourists.
