Always check Trenitalia first. Their regional trains are cheap if you book ahead. Saved me a ton of hassle last time.

Actually regional train prices on Trenitalia are fixed, they don't get cheaper with advance booking. @hall.joel you can buy those tickets anytime for the same price. It's the high-speed trains where booking early matters.
