Spent $200 on a 'luggage tracking' device and it pinged me at a random warehouse 30 miles from the airport instead of the baggage carousel.

The AirTag or whatever only works if the thief has an iPhone on them, which mine apparently didn't, so I ended up buying a $35 duffel at a convenience store and refunding the whole lost bag claim three weeks later, has anyone else had their AirTag fail overseas?

In my experience those things only work if you're in a city with tons of iPhones around. $200 is a lot to find out your tracker is useless without the right phone nearby. I've had better luck just keeping my bag in sight or going with a cheap dummy tracker that scares off amateurs.

30 million Apple devices in NYC alone basically means you're covered 24/7 there. That $200 tracker saved my buddy's laptop when he left it in an Uber across town.
