Spent 45 minutes hunting down a hidden hostel fee in Lisbon
Booked a bed through a third party site for 12 euros a night. Got there and they slapped on a 5 euro 'cleaning fee' per night that wasn't listed anywhere. Anyone else dealt with surprise fees at check in?

Yeah, I used to think those cheap booking sites were fine and people just needed to read the fine print. But then the same thing happened to me in Barcelona with a "tourist tax" that was actually 4 euros a night extra. It completely changed my mind because that's not a small fee when you're counting pennies backpacking. Hotels and hostels are being shady by hiding these costs, and it makes the original price basically a lie. Now I always message the place directly before booking to ask about any extra charges they don't show online.
