Waiting for bus tickets to get cheaper is my go-to budget hack.
I mean, I travel on a tight budget all the time. I saw that bus and train tickets often cost less if you buy them near the travel date. For example, my trip from Berlin to Prague had tickets at 30 euros when I looked early. I waited, and two days before, they were 15 euros. That saved me half the price. This works with some airline sales too, if you can risk it. It's all about being okay with not having plans set in stone.

Tried that with a last-minute train to Amsterdam once. Watched the price drop from fifty bucks to twenty euros the night before. Felt like winning the lottery, but you do have to accept you might end up stranded. I only pull that move when I have zero plans and a backup couch to crash on. The stress isn't worth it for anything important.

My cousin talked me into trying that for a Barcelona train. Saw it go from like 70 euros down to 30 an hour before. The thrill was real but I spent the whole ride praying I didn't have to sleep on the airport floor.
