Forgot about my HSA reimbursement deadline by 3 days and lost $220 in dental receipts from that Houston root canal.
I was sitting at my desk in the office going through old paperwork and found the envelope dated 14 months back, and my only option now is to just eat the cost since the plan year closed last Thursday, has anyone else here ever missed a deadline on medical expenses and found a way around it?

Heard a tax guy on the radio say you can sometimes roll leftover HSA money forward without receipts if you switch plans.

Oh man, that root canal story hits close to home. I had a similar thing happen but with a flexible spending account a couple years back. I left a $300 receipt for a chiropractor sitting in my glovebox for like six months, then found it while cleaning out the car for a road trip. Lost the whole thing and my wife still brings it up whenever we talk about budgets. Some people say you can try calling the plan administrator and beg them to reopen it as a "goodwill" thing, but mine just told me tough luck in a real professional way.

Yeah, is there any way to call them and just beg? I've seen some plans cut people a break if it's only a few days late, especially if you got a good reason. My buddy once missed a deadline by a week on a hospital bill and his HSA admin let it slide after he explained he was in the hospital recovery room when it came due. Just being real though, most of the time they'll stick to the rules. You might be out that $220, man. Live and learn.
