Heard my coworker say she's been faking her Uber receipts for reimbursement all year

I was grabbing coffee in the break room and Linda was bragging to her friend about doctoring $30-50 rides to $80 for the last 6 months on her expense reports. Our company just rolled out a new audit software that cross-checks distances with GPS logs last week. Has anyone here ever gotten caught doing stuff like that and what happened with HR?

Hang on, your company's new software probably can't track exact GPS logs for every employee's personal phone unless you're using a company device or app. That's a big liability and privacy nightmare for them. Still, they can definitely flag rides that are way over the average for your city or that keep showing the same fake time stamps. Did she actually get caught yet or is she just assuming nobody will notice?

Honestly, "way over the average for your city" is exactly how my old boss caught a guy here. He was "working from home" but his fake Uber receipts were showing pickup times that were way too consistent for actual traffic. Dead giveaway. Ngl, I've seen the same kind of thing happen with a guy at my last gig who was claiming mileage for trips that never happened on paper. The software just flagged the exact same time stamps and distances like every single day. It's honestly scary how much those little details can catch you out.
