I finally understood my own budget after a chat with my barista

She mentioned she puts every five dollar bill she gets into a separate jar for car repairs. I started doing that six months ago and just covered a new tire without touching my checking account. What's a small habit that's actually saved you a decent amount?

Always thought those little money tricks were a bit silly. My game changer was rounding up every purchase to the nearest dollar in my head and moving that change to savings. Bought a new coffee maker last month with what felt like spare change. It adds up without you really noticing the loss.

Wait, do you actually move the money right after each purchase or just keep a running total? I'd forget halfway through the day.

Honestly, I'd forget too if I tried to move it each time. My brain just doesn't work like that. Tbh, I'd probably end up with a jar full of random numbers and regret.

Yeah, that "without noticing the loss" part is key. I did something similar by putting all my five-dollar bills in a jar.
