Just found out my bank was charging a $12 monthly fee I never knew about
I was looking at my old bank statements online last night, just checking things over. I saw a small charge each month labeled 'account maintenance' for a full year. I called them this morning and they said it was a fee for not keeping a high enough balance. I had no idea that rule even existed because I opened the account so long ago. Has anyone else had a sneaky fee pop up like this?

Banks are just legal pickpockets.

Actually, credit unions are a thing. They're not-for-profit and usually have way lower fees. You should look into one if your bank is ripping you off.

Right, because nothing says 'service' like a thirty dollar fee for having ten dollars in your account. They're basically just charging us rent to hold our own money, it's genius when you think about it. I half expect a teller to ask for a tip after a withdrawal.

@lily167 you're not wrong. Reminds me of when my credit union charged me for closing my own savings account.
