My brother-in-law showed me his grocery receipt from last Tuesday and it blew my mind

We were just hanging out at his place in Tacoma, grabbing a beer after work, when he pulled out this long receipt from his back pocket. He said 'check this out, I got all this for under 60 bucks.' It was stuff for like three full meals for his family of four. I always thought you had to spend way more to eat decently, but he walked me through it. He shops the sales flyer at the local store, buys the big packs of chicken when they're marked down, and uses a lot of rice and beans. I used to just grab whatever looked good and my bill was always over 100. I'm trying his method this week, starting with the store's app to plan. Has anyone else had a friend totally change how you shop for food?

Try freezing the marked-down meat too.

My cousin does that with the clearance meat... she'll buy a whole pork loin for like five bucks and slice it up herself. Makes me feel like I've been throwing money away.

Yeah the "buys the big packs of chicken when they're marked down" part got me. My buddy Dave did something similar with ground beef once. He showed up at my place with like 15 pounds of it from a manager's special at Fred Meyer. Said he was gonna make a big batch of chili and freeze the rest. I thought he was nuts until I actually tried it myself. Now I buy a whole pork shoulder when it's cheap and spend a Sunday turning it into pulled pork for the week. You end up with way more food than you think, and it tastes better than the pre-packaged stuff anyway.

Planning around sales really does cut the bill in half.
