My emergency fund hit $5,000 and I feel weird about it

Everyone says you need 3-6 months of expenses saved, but I always thought that was impossible for me. I just kept putting $50 from each paycheck into a separate account in Kansas City, and after two years, I looked and it was over five grand. It feels more like a weird lump of money I'm scared to touch than a win. Does anyone else get nervous when they finally hit a big savings goal?

That feeling is totally normal. I put my emergency fund in a high yield savings account at an online bank I never check. Out of sight, out of mind. When my car battery died, I transferred just the cost to my checking account and paid for it. That helped me see it as a tool, not a trophy. The money did its job and I built it back up slowly after.

Totally get that weird feeling. It's like you worked so hard to build it up that spending any of it feels wrong, even for an actual emergency. Maybe try moving it to a different bank so it's not just sitting there staring at you.

Honestly michael669, it's just money, not some sacred relic you can't touch.
