My grocery budget blew up in a single Tuesday afternoon
I went to Aldi with a $60 list for the week and somehow walked out $40 over because I grabbed a clearance Instant Pot that was 70% off. Turns out that 'deal' meant I had to also buy a special silicone lid and a steamer basket to make it work. Has anyone else had a seemingly good bargain wreck their whole weekly spending plan?

Clearance sales are just fancy names for surprise expenses.

That Instant Pot being 70% off sounds like a score at first, but the extra stuff you had to get kind of kills the deal. I actually see it the other way though - you got a high end appliance for a fraction of retail, and those accessories are one time costs you can use for years. My wife did the same thing with a clearance KitchenAid mixer, spent an extra $30 on attachments, but now she uses it every week. Sometimes going over budget for a long term tool is smarter than skipping it and paying full price later.

Call the whole thing a mistake cause you paid full price for extras you didn't actually need.
