My subscription tracker showed I was paying for 3 months of a free trial

I signed up for a meal kit service back in July because they offered a free week of boxes. Forgot about it completely until I checked my budgeting app yesterday and saw three $60 charges going back to August. Called the company and they refunded two of them because the third one was past the 60 day window. Now I set a reminder on my phone for every single free trial I start.

Three months of free trial charges is rough. Setting a phone reminder is smart but even that can slip. I just put calendar alerts on my phone a day before trials end. Also stopped giving credit cards for free trials unless I'm absolutely sure I'll cancel.

Ugh, that really gets to the heart of it, doesn't it? This whole "make it easy to sign up, hard to cancel" thing is everywhere now, from streaming services to gym memberships. It's like companies are betting on forgetfulness and busy schedules to pad their bottom line. Feels like the burden is always on us to remember, not on them to be straightforward.

Oh I read that some companies now use virtual cards that auto-expire after trials!
