Rant: The price of produce at Whole Foods in Portland is insane
I stopped into the Whole Foods on NW Couch last week and nearly choked when I saw a single bell pepper for $2.50. How is anyone supposed to stick to a grocery budget when they're charging that much for something that grows in a dirt patch?

Maybe the real issue is that bell peppers are just a loss leader for them to sell you on $12 cartons of bone broth and fancy salt. Whole Foods has always priced things like each item needs to fund the store's ambient lighting and reclaimed wood shelves. In Portland especially, they know people will pay extra just to avoid walking into a regular grocery store.
