The time I started couponing at a gas station convenience store in Missoula
I was on a road trip through Montana last summer and stopped for gas in Missoula. Inside the store I saw a display of granola bars for 50 cents each with a sign that said 'buy 2 get 1 free'. I grabbed three and the cashier pointed out I had actually saved $1.75. That little win got me thinking. I started looking at grocery store apps and pickup discounts. Now I check my phone for digital coupons before every trip to the store. My monthly food bill dropped from around $450 to $320. Has anyone else had a random moment like that which hooked them on deal hunting?

So you're basically saying a granola bar deal rewired your brain? It's wild how one tiny savings moment can flip a switch and make you see all those markups everywhere else.

Exactly. It's like once you see one crack in the pricing matrix, you start noticing all of them. That granola bar was basically the gateway drug to realizing how much you're just paying for convenience and packaging. Suddenly everything from a bottle of water to a bag of chips feels a little less worth it.

...that granola bar deal really did rewire my brain. I get it completely. It's like once you see what's actually possible, you can't unsee all the wasted money. My moment was at a drugstore. They had a coupon for shampoo that made it cheaper than the generic brand. That was it for me.
Now I'm the person who actually reads the fine print on those deals. My family thinks I'm nuts. But hey, I'm the one who saved $130 on groceries this month. So who's really crazy here?
