TIL talking budgets with my neighbor changed how I look at dining out

My neighbor Mike works construction and told me he brings a thermos of coffee and a sandwich to every job site instead of hitting the gas station. He said he saves about $40 a week doing that and puts it straight into his truck payment. Do any of you have simple swaps like that that actually moved the needle on a bigger expense?

Oh man, I tried the thermos thing once and forgot it on my kitchen counter three days in a row so I just gave up and accepted my fate as a gas station breakfast regular.

My buddy Dan worked at a Subway for two years and he told me their biggest profit margin is on drinks. Like a 32 oz soda costs them maybe 10 cents and they charge you $2.50. I started keeping a 64 oz water jug in my car and just refilling it at home. I also cut soda almost entirely. Over a year that saved me like $400 easy. Plus I sleep better and don't crash at 2 pm from sugar drops.
