Vent: That day I spent $80 on a 'budget' grocery haul and got 3 meals out of it

Last Tuesday I tried to be smart and bought a bunch of marked-down stuff from Kroger, but half of it went bad by Friday. Lesson learned - stock up on pantry staples instead of clearance produce. Anyone else have a grocery trip that totally backfired like that?

Man, that's rough. Store markdown stuff is a total gamble with produce especially. I've learned to just stick with frozen veggies and canned beans for my budget hauls.

Ha, @parker_palmer44 you're speaking my language! I swear half the time those "manager's special" stickers are just a trap... like, congrats, you saved a dollar on lettuce that's gonna be soup by tomorrow morning. Frozen veggies are the real MVP though, I've got a whole shelf in my freezer dedicated to mixed bags. Canned beans too, way more reliable than hoping that dented can of black beans isn't secretly expired. But hey, sometimes I still risk it on the markdown bread if it's day-old... feels like a small victory when it's not moldy.

Pro tip @jakejones, frozen veg never lets you down unlike that sad discount lettuce.
