Appreciation post: Found the perfect weekly spread after 4 years of trying everything

I started bullet journaling back in 2019 and my weekly layouts were always a mess. I tried the dutch door thing, I tried those super minimalist ones with just lines, even tried a full color artsy approach that took me 2 hours every Sunday. Nothing stuck because I always ran out of space for random notes or I'd forget to write down tasks from Tuesday. Then last month I stumbled on a simple trick from a teacher friend - she uses a 2 page spread where the left page has 3 columns for Mon-Wed and the right page has 3 columns for Thu-Sat with Sunday as a tiny box at the bottom. The KEY is leaving the bottom third of both pages blank for random thoughts. I've been using it for 5 weeks now and it actually works for my chaotic schedule. Has anyone else found a weekly layout that clicked after years of trying different ones?

That bottom third blank space thing is genius honestly... I always tried to cram everything into the boxes and ended up with sticky notes all over my desk by Wednesday. The dutch door layouts never worked for me either, felt like I was doing origami instead of planning my week. I think the key is accepting your brain is messy and building space for that instead of fighting it. Your teacher friend figured out what most of us miss, you gotta leave room for the stuff you didn't see coming. Might try this next month when my current setup inevitably falls apart.

Mark, you just made me rethink everything. I used to be the person who filled every square and then felt like a failure by Thursday. My brain really is messy and I was fighting it hard. That bottom third space is actually a load off. Leaves room for the chaos life throws at you. Mark, you got it right with accepting instead of fixing.

Four years is a lot of trial and error for a notebook layout, but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night. Glad you finally found your groove, even if it took an entire pandemic to get there.
