Debate: Is a minimalist BuJo setup better than going all out with supplies?

I was at a cafe in Portland last weekend and spotted two people bullet journaling at nearby tables. One had just a black pen and a basic notebook, while the other had a whole pouch of markers, washi tape, and stencils. Which side do you fall on and why does your method actually work better for getting stuff done?

Better for getting stuff done" feels a little dramatic for a hobby that's basically drawing lines in a notebook. Honestly, I think people overthink this way too much. Minimalist or extra, if you're spending more time picking out washi tape than actually writing stuff down, you're missing the point. I've gone both ways and my productivity stayed the same, I just had more clutter to dig through with the fancy setup. Pick what makes you want to open the notebook, but don't pretend it's some sacred productivity system.

pick what makes you want to open the notebook" - that's literally it. My friend spent months on this crazy bullet journal with all these color coded sections and habit trackers, then quit after like two weeks because it was too much work to keep up.

Right there with you on this one. All that extra stuff just gets in the way of actually writing things down. A plain notebook and a pen still gets the job done just fine.
