Friend told me my weekly spreads were too cluttered

One of my coworkers glanced at my bullet journal last Tuesday and said "dude, this looks like a ransom note." I used to cram every single task and note into one weekly spread, so now I split it into two pages - one for scheduled stuff and one for random thoughts. Has anyone else gotten feedback that totally changed their layout approach?

Respectfully, I gotta disagree on this one. Cluttered spreads look alive and USEFUL, like you actually DO things instead of just decorating a notebook. Half the time the messier layouts end up being the ones I actually reference later.

yeah i saw something about this in a study actually. turns out our brains process messy notes better for recall because we're forced to actually engage with the material instead of just passively looking at a neat layout. i think there's something to that. like my most dog-eared sticky note covered pages are always the ones i actually flip back to because they have the details i need right there. the pretty spreads look nice on instagram but they're basically just art projects at that point.

@spencer_park26 saying cluttered spreads look "alive and USEFUL" - is it really that deep though? Like, it's a notebook. Not a personality test or a life philosophy. Write stuff down however works for you and move on.
