Hot take: I thought the Alastair method was overhyped nonsense, then I tried it for one month
I rolled my eyes at every post about the Alastair method because it looked like extra work. But I had 14 tasks piling up and my normal list was a mess, so I drew two columns in my Leuchtturm and sorted everything by when it actually needed to happen. Turns out seeing 'this week' next to 'this month' stopped me from ignoring the stuff that was due sooner. Now I want to know, do you split your columns by day or by priority?
Two columns in a Leuchtturm and suddenly you are a productivity guru, huh? I did the same thing last spring, except my second column was labeled "stuff I will pretend doesn't exist until Friday." Seeing seven items stacked in the left column made me realize I had been lying to myself about how much time I actually had. My fix was splitting by day for work tasks and by priority for home stuff, because the garage door and the tax form do not care about my feelings. Priority columns just turn into a game of everything is urgent, so the day split keeps me honest.
