My sister told me my habit tracker looked like a punishment chart

She saw my journal open on the kitchen table last Tuesday and said, 'Faith, why does this look like you're grading yourself?' I had a whole page for my water intake, exercise, and reading, but it was just a grid of checkmarks and X's. No color, no notes, just pass or fail. I realized she was right. It felt like a chore list from my old boss. So I ripped that page out. Now I use a simple line to log if I did something, and I write one sentence about how it felt. Like 'drank water, felt less foggy' or 'skipped the walk, too tired, it's fine.' It's not about perfect streaks anymore. Has anyone else shifted from tracking completion to tracking how things actually felt?

Read something a while back about how strict trackers can backfire. The writer said turning life into a spreadsheet makes you feel like a failing employee of yourself. I tried the one-sentence thing with my running log. Used to just mark the miles, now I jot down 'legs felt heavy, but saw a good dog' or 'cut it short, needed coffee more.' Makes it feel less like a report card. Way easier to keep up with when it's just a note, not a judgment.
