The day I stopped making my monthly spreads too pretty

Honestly, I spent like 3 years doing these gorgeous monthly calendars with washi tape and doodles, but I never actually used them after the first week. It hit me last Tuesday when I flipped back through my journal and saw half the pages were blank decorations. I realized I was so focused on making it look good that I forgot the whole point is to track tasks and habits. Who else has had to strip back their layout and start simple?

Right there with you, man. I had this whole aesthetic thing going and then realized I was just making art projects instead of actually tracking my life.

Did I used to spend way too long drawing washi tape borders that I'd only see for a week before flipping the page? Yeah, that was me. My old layouts had like 4 different highlighters, hand lettered month titles, and stickers for every holiday, but I never tracked more than "buy milk" in the actual boxes. Now my spreads look like a 5 year old made them but I actually use the dang thing every day.

Whoa hold on, you had stickers for every single holiday? Like even National Pickle Day or something? That level of dedication is wild, man. I can barely remember to move a sticky note from one week to the next. So you seriously had a whole sticker for Arbor Day in there?
