Serious question, did anyone else pick between cable and fixed wireless for their shop and regret it?
6 months ago I had to choose between keeping the cable line at my print shop or switching to a fixed wireless setup. The wireless guys promised 100 down for $85 a month, and the cable company wanted $130 to bump us to 200 down. I went with wireless because of the price and now I'm kicking myself. Every time it rains hard in Bakersfield the signal drops to like 12 down and our card reader times out at the counter. I called support twice and they just told me to move the antenna higher on the roof. Has anyone here switched back after trying fixed wireless, or did you find a way to make it work?
My buddy runs a little barber shop over on Chester and he did the exact same thing, dumped his cable for fixed wireless to save a few bucks and it was fine for like two months. Then every time the wind picked up or we got one of those dust storms his whole system would crawl, he couldn't even run his card terminal half the time and he lost a walk-in or two over it. He tried the antenna thing too, climbed up there twice, and it barely helped, turns out the tower was just too far and there was a hill in the way. He ended up going back to cable and just eating the higher bill because losing sales was worse than the price jump. So yeah, moving the antenna only works if the signal is weak but clean, if it's a distance or line of sight problem no amount of height is gonna fix it.
