Finally switched to soft-close hinges after 10 years of cheap ones
I always thought soft-close hinges were a waste of money. Been using basic 35mm cup hinges for like a decade on all my jobs. Last month I had a client who specifically wanted Blum soft-close on their kitchen reno. I fought them on it but they insisted. After installing 30 of those things I totally get it now. The difference in feel is night and day, and they actually hold adjustment way better over time. The cost was about $4 more per hinge which added up to around $120 extra for the whole job. Anyone else been stubborn about switching to something better?

Alright I gotta disagree with you on this one. I've been using those cheap 35mm cup hinges for years too and I still don't see the big deal with soft-close. I mean yeah they feel nice at first but it's just a plastic dampener that's gonna wear out eventually, and then you're stuck with a hinge that doesn't even close right. Plus $4 more per hinge adds up quick when you're doing a whole kitchen, and for what? So the cabinet doesn't slam? Just close it gently, it's not that hard. Idk maybe it's just me but I'd rather spend that money on better wood or hardware that actually matters.
