Learned the hard way about drawer slides on a $6000 job

I was installing a kitchen in Arlington last month and used some cheap side-mount slides on 10 deep drawers. Day after I left, the homeowner called saying three drawers were sagging and scraping the frame. Had to pull every one out and swap to undermount Blum slides at my own cost, lost two full days and about $450 in materials. Now I add a line in the estimate for better hardware upfront, anyone else get burned by trying to save a few bucks on slides?

Honestly it's wild how this applies to way more than just hardware. Like I noticed it with cheap kitchen knives once - spent $15 on a set and within two months the handles were wobbly and blades wouldn't hold an edge. My buddy told me the same thing about his vacuum cleaner he bought at a discount store. Ended up replacing it three times in a year before splurging on a decent one that's still going strong. It's like the universe is telling us that saving a few bucks upfront just means paying double later on in headaches and replacements.

Learned that lesson myself a few years ago on a bathroom vanity. Tried saving maybe $30 on soft-close slides for six drawers and ended up replacing three of them within six months. Now I just use Blum or Accuride on anything with drawers, period. The markup on the job covers it anyway and I sleep better knowing I won't get that call. Cheap slides just aren't worth the stress or the callback lol.
