Saw a cabinet shop in Asheville using old window sashes as door panels and it looked amazing
I was in Asheville last month checking out a furniture place and the guy had built his whole display wall out of salvaged window sashes. He told me he pulls them from a demolition yard off Swannanoa River Road for about $15 each and just cleans them up with a brass brush and tung oil. The thing that got me was how he set them into the cabinet doors, he routed a rabbet 3/8 deep and 1/4 wide so the glass sits flush with the face frame. Said it takes him maybe 45 extra minutes per door but he charges double for anything with glass in it. I have probably 20 old sashes sitting in my barn right now that I was going to burn. Anyone here ever messed with lead paint on salvage glass before, and how do you deal with it?
