Soft-close hinges drove me nuts until I tried the two-stage trick
I spent 3 weeks fighting these cheap soft-close hinges that kept slamming on heavy maple doors, then a guy at a class in Portland showed me to adjust the tension screw in tiny 1/8 turns while the door is off. Now they close smooth every time, has anyone else found that trick works better than the manufacturer's guide?

Take the door off before adjusting, huh... that's the part I never tried. I always fought with them hanging there, trying to turn that stupid screw while holding the door level with my knee. Did you notice if the tension screw feels different when it's not under load, like it's easier to feel the clicks or something?
