Warning: Plywood glue fumes are worse than I thought.
Standard plywood often uses urea-formaldehyde based adhesive. This glue lets out strong fumes that can linger in finished cabinets for a long time. Always check for a NAUF or CARB2 stamp on the sheet to be sure. Switching to these options is better for everyone's health.

Oh fantastic, another thing in my house secretly trying to kill me. I always figured the glue thing was a bit overblown until I heard stories like from @michaeltorres. Now I'm side-eyeing my own cabinets wondering if my constant headache is from work or just my kitchen slowly off-gassing. Nothing like a side of chemical fumes with your morning coffee. We really do learn about this stuff the hard way, don't we.

But honestly those rules feel like overkill for most people. A little fresh air usually fixes it anyway.

In our old apartment, the new cabinets made my eyes water for a month. This isn't just about plywood, it's about all the bad chemicals hiding in modern homes. We should push for safer stuff from the beginning.

Check the label for CARB 2 compliance, that's the good standard for low formaldehyde. Run an air purifier with a heavy duty carbon filter right in the kitchen for a few weeks, it makes a huge difference. Wipe down every surface with a damp cloth daily to grab the dust that holds the chemicals. It's a pain but it really cuts down on the smell and the headaches.
