A retired installer in Fort Worth asked why I crimp my fittings twice, and I couldn't answer him
Was on a job in Fort Worth last Tuesday and this old guy, 30 plus years in the trade, watched me crimp a fitting and asked why I always hit it twice. I said habit, and he just nodded and said habit is fine until it's hiding a bad tool. Checked my crimper when I got back to the truck and the die was worn enough that one pass wasn't seating all the way. Cost me $22 for a new die and probably a dozen service calls I never knew about. Anyone else ever find out a random habit of theirs was covering up a problem?
