Finally stopped fighting with fish tape on third-floor runs

Used to spend 20 minutes wrestling that thing through insulation in old houses around Akron, but I switched to a glow rod set about 8 months ago and it cut my attic work time in half. Anyone else find a specific trick for getting past fire stops without pulling your hair out?

My dad was an electrician for 30 years and swore by putting a magnetic retrievel tool on the end of his fish tape to grab those tricky angles near fire stops. It saved him from having to drill extra holes and patching them later. Might be worth a shot if you want to keep using the fish tape instead of switching over completely.

Tbh a magnetic retrievel tool on fish tape is more for dropped screws, not fire stop angles.

...and here I am still trying to fish tape my way out of a paper bag, let alone a fire stop. Guess my magnetic retriever is better at finding my coffee cup than dropped screws. Maybe I should just stick to patching drywall and calling it a day.
