Had a customer in Denver ask me why I was putting a splitter on his line

He was a retired engineer and stood there watching me work, then asked if it would cut his speed in half. I explained it was for his second TV box and showed him the signal levels on my meter. Has anyone else had a customer really grill you on the technical side of a basic install?

Cut his speed in half" is a classic retired engineer question. They just can't turn off the problem solving part of their brain, even for a TV box. At least he was willing to look at the meter instead of just arguing.

Show them the numbers, end the debate.

Retired engineers are the best and worst customers for that exact reason. Just show them the meter readings and let the numbers do the talking. It usually shuts down the theory and gets you back to work.

Actually, a splitter doesn't cut speed, it just divides the signal.
